Priority Of Rule Levels

NS Estimated Delivery Date organizes delivery date estimates by three levels of rules: Global Rule, Collection Rule, and Product Rule

Each level has a priority order, ensuring that more specific rules override general ones. In this post, you will find out how each rule works. Let’s get started now!

Understanding Rule Priority in NS Estimated Delivery Date

1. Global Rule – General Setting for All Products

The Global Rule is the default delivery date for all products and has the lowest priority

It only applies if no other rules are set at the Collection or Product level. Use this rule to have a basic delivery estimate for every item in your store.

  • Example: Set a standard delivery time of 5-7 days for all products.

2. Collection Rule – Delivery Estimates for Product Groups

The Collection Rule lets you apply delivery estimates to specific product groups, either by Pre-set Shopify Collection or Custom EDD Collection made in the app.

Collection rules override Global Level settings but are secondary to Product Level rules.

  • Example: Set a 3-5 days delivery time for items in a “Holiday Collection”, which overrides the Global rule.

3. Product Rule – Individual Product Delivery Times

The Product Level rule has the highest priority and is applied to specific products.

This rule overweighs both Collection and Global settings, making it ideal for unique items that need custom delivery estimates.

  • Example: Set a 1-2 day delivery time for a limited-edition item, ensuring it displays this specific time, even if it’s part of a collection.

How the Priority Works

The rules follow this order:

Product > EDD Collection > Shopify Collection > Global

If a product has a Product Rule, that time will display, regardless of any Collection or Global Rule.

If no Product Rule exists, the Collection Rule applies; otherwise, it defaults to the Global Rule.

Note: EDD Collection overrides Shopify Collection in any case.

Rule LevelPriority OrderUse Cases
Product Rule1 (Highest)Unique products needing specific times
Collection Rule2Groups of items with shared timelines
Global Rule 3 (Lowest)General settings for all products
Note:

When only the Delivery Country and Global rules are active, the app prioritizes:
Delivery Country > Global Rule

This ensures that the most specific configuration is always applied first, giving your customers reliable, country-specific delivery details.
